Gonna Change My Way of Thinking

The words

A vow to turn his life around and live by a new set of rules.

The speaker announces that he is going to change how he thinks and lives, setting aside old habits for a new, stricter code rooted in his faith. The verses describe the corruption around him and his resolve to stand apart from it. The tone is tough and determined rather than gentle, delivered over a hard, bluesy groove. He later recorded a reworked version as a duet with Mavis Staples for a 2003 tribute album of his gospel songs.
