The group began almost by accident. Harrison needed an extra track for a single and gathered friends to record it, using a studio at Dylan's home in Malibu. The result, "Handle with Care", was too good to tuck away, so the five agreed to make a whole album together under joking pseudonyms as brothers of a fictional Wilbury family. The record, recorded quickly and loosely, had the warm, easy sound of friends trading verses, with each member taking turns at lead vocals. It became a big hit and won a Grammy. Orbison died that December, only weeks after its release. The remaining four made a second album in 1990, wryly titled Vol. 3, and the project gave Dylan a rare taste of being one voice in a band.
