Black Diamond Bay

Co-written with Jacques Levy, it is one of the album's long story songs.

The words

A cast of strangers at an island hotel meets disaster, while a man watching the news far away barely notices.

A long story song set at a hotel on a tropical island. A cast of strangers, among them a mysterious woman, a soldier, a gambler and a desperate man, each pursue their own small dramas as a volcano begins to erupt. The island and everyone on it are swallowed up. In the final verse the scene cuts to a man far away who sees the news on television, shrugs and moves on. Dylan co-wrote it with Jacques Levy.
