Drifter’s Escape

A three-minute parable that closes the first side of the original LP.

The words

A bewildered man on trial slips away when a bolt from the sky strikes the courthouse.

A drifter stands trial for reasons he cannot grasp, while the judge seems sympathetic yet powerless and the jury and crowd grow hostile around him. Just as the case turns against him, lightning strikes the courthouse, and in the confusion he slips away. Brief and told like a parable, it has a tense, almost biblical feel and leaves the meaning of both the crime and the escape open. It closes the first side of the original LP at a brisk three minutes.
