Written by Peter DeRose and Billy Hill in 1938 and recorded by Frank Sinatra with Harry James; the eighth track on Fallen Angels.
The words
A secret romance unfolds in a far-off port city, where two lovers meet in hiding.
The singer describes a clandestine love affair set on a quiet street in a distant Asian port, with moonlight, exotic surroundings and a sense of danger. It is a piece of old Hollywood-style romantic escapism, more about atmosphere than story. The tune sways lazily, evoking a faraway night. Dylan's version is gentle and unhurried, his band adding a soft, slightly mysterious color that suits the song's dreamlike setting.
