A solo performance from the New York sessions, later remade with a loud band arrangement on the live album Hard Rain.
The words
A weary man remembers a woman who once took him in and gave him refuge from a hostile world.
A worn-out man looks back on the time a woman took him in when he had nowhere left to turn. The verses describe the hostile, violent world he was escaping and the calm she offered him, each closing with the memory of her welcome. As the song goes on, regret creeps in: he has lost that refuge and wishes he could return to it. The original is a solo performance; later he remade it with a loud band on Hard Rain.
