The tour began in Japan early in the year and ran for most of the next ten months, ending in the United States in December. Dylan reworked his old songs with a big band that included saxophone and a trio of women singers, giving many of them new arrangements, sometimes almost unrecognizable. In the middle of the year he released Street-Legal. European audiences responded warmly, including a very large outdoor show at Blackbushe in England, while some American critics mocked the glossy sound as showbusiness. At Budokan, recorded in Tokyo, was issued first in Japan and then worldwide. Near the end of the tour he went through a religious conversion, and by early 1979 he had become a born-again Christian.
