Bob Dylan's 115th Dream

Closes the first side of Bringing It All Back Home and opens with a false start that collapses into laughter before the band comes in.

The words

A sailor's absurd dream of landing in America and being met by a parade of rude, ridiculous Americans.

The song is a long comic tall tale in which the narrator sails to America, steps ashore and stumbles from one misadventure to the next, meeting a string of hostile, greedy or baffling locals before fleeing back to sea. It plays on the story of discovery, turning the arrival in the New World into slapstick. The verses tumble on without a chorus, and Dylan sings it with a grin over a loose, galloping band after the opening breakdown.
