Dylan built it on the old Delta blues tune best known from Muddy Waters' 1950 recording.
The words
A restless man rises early and wrestles with his troubles and a woman who has done him wrong.
A restless man wakes early, unable to rest, and wrestles with his troubles and with a woman who has treated him badly. The verses complain, threaten and boast in turn, but the song is driven more by its rolling rhythm than by any story. Dylan built it on the old Delta blues tune best known from Muddy Waters' 1950 recording, and the band plays it as a loud, churning electric blues.
