The Levee’s Gonna Break

A rocking blues on Modern Times based on "When the Levee Breaks", the 1929 song by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie.

The words

A man warns that the floodwaters are rising and the levee is about to give way.

A man watches as the river rises and warns that the levee is about to fail, the coming flood standing for both natural disaster and a life spinning out of control. Released the year after Hurricane Katrina, it inevitably recalled that flood. The verses toss together worry, love and sardonic remarks over a fast, rolling boogie driven by the road band.
